This last Sunday I received the best words of encouragement. First, a new attender at Faith Community Church grabbed me during “Linger Longer” (our coffee and hang out time after worship) and said, “I just wanted you to know that I’ve stopped wearing eye makeup to this church!” That was the best opening to a conversation I’ve ever had, so I had to ask what she meant. She said, “I’ve been coming to worship with you guys for about a month now and every time I worship I just find myself crying. So, I’ve just stopped wearing makeup! Thanks for the authenticity of what’s happening in people lives here at this church.” Who gets the honor of such a compliment? I certainly don’t deserve it.
Then as I was leaving, one of the dear people I’ve pastored for 20 years called to me as I was jumping into my truck. “Hey Andy, on this week of Thanksgiving I’ve been thinking about all the things that I’m thankful for and I just want to say I’m thankful for you as our pastor. I know you once dreamed of this church being the faith community that had thousands attending, but you know what? Maybe this church isn’t doesn’t have thousands attending, but the truth is you have made a very deep impact on a number of people’s lives and I’m sure if we both counted up the deep impact you’ve made it would count in the hundreds of lives.” Again – Who gets the honor of such a compliment? I certainly don’t deserve it. I’m so thankful to God for the community He’s called me to serve!
