Slow Down And Recognize Truth

Life comes at you fast, but I’m constantly being reminded that I don’t have to move fast as fast as life dictates. I actually can slow down the pace, and when I do I find that I rediscover important realities I easily forget when I’m hurrying. Yesterday I was enjoying the warmth of the sun by washing our incredibly grimy cars. As I hurried to wash the cars I saw this beautiful poppy in our front yard. Instead of glancing at it, and quickly recognizing it was beautiful, before moving on to my next thought, I actually dropped what I was doing, walked over to the flower in this photo, and I just stopped to look at it for a few minutes. Of course, as I gazed at its stunning color I thought of Jesus’ words in Matthew, See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? If you’re in a hurry today, slow down, step out of your rat-race for a minute, and recognize realities that are bigger than the pace of life.
