Beauty In The Eye Of The Beholder

Aleta and I just finished a whirl-wind tour down to SoCal in order to move our daughter  out of her dorms as she finished her freshman year of college. What an amazing accomplishment! Next year she gets to live in a cool apartment – a single room, living room, kitchen and bath little thing. Moving into an apartment meant she had to look for, and buy, cheap old & odd bits of furniture from fellow college students as they vacated their apartments and houses. She bought this one couch that was an old faux-leather number with giant rips in the couch cushions. I can only imagine how badly that couch needs to be irradiated before anyone sits on it. Yeah, I can’t let my mind go there. Anyway as pathetic as that couch looked – to my daughter, who is just beginning the journey of having her own apartment, that couch was beautiful and comfy. Her genuine excitement brought me back to the days when Aleta and I were just starting out, and our furniture was a bunch of boxes and various hand-me-downs that were pathetic and yet absolutely beautiful to us as we made our home together for the first time. One man’s junk is truly another man’s treasure.
