Your servant the Apostle Paul once wrote to Timothy, the young pastor he’d been mentoring, that “People will be lovers of themselves . . . not lovers of the good . . . lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God “ 2 Timothy 3: 2- 4) It pains me to admit this but, Paul is describing the hearts and minds of Jesus’ disciples in North America Father. Most of us live our lives pursuing what is “permissible,” what everyone in our culture assumes is allowable in generating pleasure for ourselves, over and above what is good and what produces honor for your name. It’s no wonder that discipleship in the west has truly become anemic. Father what will it take to turn us from “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” into “lovers of God rather than lovers of pleasure.” What’s it gonna take? . . .
