Insecurity And Uncertainity

This is how you pray!

How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, O Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death; my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.” Psalm 13: 1-4

Can you actually talk to God like this and live to tell about it? Since this poetic prayer is sitting in the middle of God’s inspired word, the answer is clearly yes! Not only can we talk to God like this, but God actually encourages us to engage in this kind of honesty with Him. The incredible picture constantly presented in the Psalms and throughout scripture is that God is big enough, and gracious enough, to handle our brutal honesty when we cry out, “God! I am frustrated by your silence and I want you to pay some attention to me right now!” It’s more than okay to call out to God in this way today.
