Fragmented Community

I’ve been thinking lately about the isolation we so often feel in our culture, and the community we all say that we want. So I’m going to be posting some thoughts on this in the coming days.

I want to begin by presenting a video on the Innovation of Lonliness. Watch it and see what you think. Does it resonate with you? Do you agree or disagree?

Timely. I quite my Facebook account last week. I can now say I have “zero” friends. 😉 I did it, in part, because of what was mentioned in the video. We are substituting Connection for Communication. I’ve also realized it allows me to maintain relationships that aren’t healthy. Rather than cutting them or repairing them, Facebook allows both sides to pretend we have a good relationship without actually dealing with any of our issues. I decided to cut FB and see who was left. Honestly, it’s only been good, so far. I’m interested to hear what your thoughts are on this.

Hey Michelle. Yeah my thoughts are simple. Amen!

I barely use FB and only as a “professional” tool that I use much like a business card or mailing address, but not as any substitute for conversation or communication. I’m not preaching FB as evil, just asking some questions about the unintended consequences of a technological “social network.”
